De Montal, Exceptional Armagnacs
The Armagnacs de Montal originate from the most prestigious terroir of the Armagnac appellation – the Bas-Armagnac. Nestled between the Landes Forest and the Atlantic Ocean, this region is characterised by its sandy and, in some areas, silty soils, along with a mild, humid climate. It produces eaux-de-vie of remarkable finesse, elegance and fruitiness.
Armagnacs de Montal are particularly renowned for their extended minimum ageing period, which exceeds the requirements of the Armagnac AOC. This results in a spirit boasting a rich spectrum of amber hues and a complex, refined aromatic palette that includes notes of flowers, fruit, vanilla and oak.
La Maison de Montal, “The Spirit of Armagnac”
Château du Rieutort has been the treasured heritage of the De Montal family since 1860. Today, Olivier de Montal and his daughter, Amanda, continue this legacy with undying passion and unwavering commitment to Armagnac. Determined to maintain the excellence of their products, they showcase the unique terroir that shapes their eaux-de-vie and the convivial spirit they embody.
True to their motto “The Spirit of Armagnac“, they consider their exceptional Armagnacs to be more than just extremely fine spirits, but a true invitation to share and savour.
Maison de Montal, the art of crafting Armagnac
Tracing its origins back to the 14th century, Armagnac is France’s oldest eau-de-vie (also known as brandy). Produced in the heart of Gascony, in southwest France, it is distilled from dry white wines and aged in oak casks for an extended period of time in our cool, dark cellars.
At the end of this artisanal process, the Armagnac is either crafted as a blend, made from eaux-de-vie of different harvest years, or as a vintage, derived from a single harvest year.
