The heritage of de Montal Armagnac

Amanda and Olivier de Montal, the Spirit of Armagnac

“We’ve devoted ourselves to sharing our Armagnacs with the world for more than 30 years.

Sipping an aged, amber-coloured Armagnac, with its rich, complex aromas and smooth, lingering finish, is more than just a moment of enjoyment; it is an expression of refinement and conviviality.

In the De Montal family, we call this ‘The Spirit of Armagnac’. For us, sharing our history, our terroir, our savoir-faire and our creations is both a pleasure and a source of immense pride.

We hope you enjoy exploring our Armagnacs and that, like us, you’ll be captivated by this exceptional spirit and become a true ambassador for Armagnac.”

Château du Rieutort, its history…

Built in 1620 by the Roquelaure family, Château du Rieutort stands at the heart of the village of the same name.

In 1761, it became the property of King Louis XV before passing into the hands of the Countess Dubarry and later a Councillor of the Toulouse Parliament.

Owned by the De Montal family since 1865, the château was declared a historical monument in 1967. Today it is one of the finest examples of Gascon architecture.

Framed by four pavilions, this elegant one-story “folly” nestles in its wooded grounds of centuries-old oaks, cedars and redwoods.

Olivier de Montal has dedicated himself to the château’s restoration for over 40 years. It is his lifetime’s work.

… and its century-old cellars

Maison de Montal is famed for its 17th-century cellars, home to an extraordinary anthology of Armagnacs dating back to 1893.

Here all the vintages from 1960 onward continue their slow maturation in oak casks. Older vintages, meanwhile, are carefully stored in glass demijohns, a method that preserves all their qualities while preventing the natural evaporation of alcohol, poetically referred to as “The Angels’ Share.”

The Armagnacs de Montal collection

Maison de Montal is home to an exceptional anthology of Armagnacs, with vintages dating back to 1893!

Whether produced as a blend, a harmonious marriage of eaux-de-vie from different harvests, or as a vintage, capturing the essence of a single year, each Armagnac in this remarkable collection is presented in an exclusive bottle. This elegant and distinctive hallmark feature embodies the refinement and timeless spirit of Maison de Montal.
